Funding to help turn Barry Dock railway station into a transport hub has been secured from the South East Wales Transport Allliance(SEWTA).

The money will be used to design a park and ride facility at the station, which it is hoped will encourage motorists out of their cars.A bid for development money will be made next year.

The plans for a hub also include a bus station and taxi ranks and is part of a wider project to regenerate the Barry area.

Coun Jeff James, the Vale council’s cabinet member for planning and transportation and who is also chairman of Sewta, said: “This is part of a joint vision of both the Vale council and Sewta to encourage greater use of the rail service and reduce car use for commuting purposes”
