National Express launches final refurbished HST into service

National Express East Coast has launched its 13th,and final,HST set back into service following refurbishment.This brings to an end a £47m project to transform the company’s fleet of diesel trains which makes them quieter,greener and more comfortable.
The carriages,which have been refurbished at Wabtec in Doncaster, have benefited from softer seats,new luggage racks,new toilets and vanity units along with new tables and the fitting of laminated glass windows. The 30 power cars were refurbished by Brush Traction and received new power units which not only made them more reliable,but also reduced noise and fuel consumption.
Chris Weatherall, managing director, Wabtec Rail said: “Wabtec Rail is very proud to have worked on this prestigious contract with NXEC, which represents an important milestone in the growth of our vehicle refurbishment capabilities.”
