American news network ABC has named the Settle and Carlisle line the second best train journey in the world. The news network say that the line is more exciting than the Orient Express route between Paris and Istanbul.

Mark Rand, chairman of the Friends of the Settle Carlisle line, said: “We always knew the S&C was extra special, but to be ranked number two in the whole world is a real honour. Now we need to spread the word and bring in people from all corners of the globe to come and visit this wonderful line.”

The line fought off competition from rail routes in Canada, India, Malaysia and the Trans-Siberian railway but was beaten to the top spot by South Africa’s Blue Train, which travels between Pretoria and Cape Town.

Funny, I can’t find anything about this on ABC’s website.
