Tornado hauls Royal train

On February 4th Tornado hauled the Royal train, conveying the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, from Preston to Manchester’s Museum of Science and industry.

The A1 locomotive called at the world’s oldest surviving passenger station, situated in the museum, and the prince went on a tour of the museum, looking at the various items of rolling stock, and the Duchess went to the nearby Coronation Street set and pulled a pint in the Rovers Return. According to one of the Street’s actors, it was the best pint he had ever had in the pub.

This is the second time Tornado, which was named by the Prince, has hauled the Royal train and during the return journey Prince Charles enjoyed a footplate trip on 60163 between Handforth and Sandbach.
