SNCF may make fresh bid for Arriva

Following the recent collapse of merger talks between French rail operator SNCF and Arriva, the French company is considering making a fresh bid for the company, in the light of Deutsche Bahn’s approach.

Arriva is the UK’s third biggest transport group and it is reported that talks with SNCF collapsed after the French operator asked for majority control of Arriva. If SNCF took over Arriva it would allow them to achieve this objective.

Friday morning saw Arriva shares rise sharply as rumours of a bidding war began circulating.
