High Speed 1 rail link for sale

Transport Secretary Philip Hammond has launched the sale of  High Speed 1, which is thought could raise £1.5bn.

Currently used by Eurostar and by Southeastern, the sale could see other operators run services along the route. The successful bidder is expected to be announced before the end of the year.

Speaking at the launch , Philip Hammond said : ” High Speed 1 is a national success story” and that : “the sale will also bring benefits to passengers as the successful private bidder will be incentivised to attract new operators serving new routes.”
