East Midlands Trains explores possibility of hybrid Meridians

East Midlands Trains has confirmed to the Rail Media Group that it is investigating the possibility of introducing a hybrid Meridian.

A spokesperson said : ”  We are investigating options for greener rolling stock with Bombardier and HSBC trains to evaluate options for a hybrid Meridian. We are confident that the technology is manageable and a hybrid solution would allow us to quickly take advantage of the significant portion of the route that is already electrified (St Pancras – Bedford). However, we have not completed our evaluation and no decisions have been taken at this stage.”
