Speculation mounts that IEP announcement could be made within days

Speculation is continuing to rise that an announcement on the Intercity Express Programme will be made within days.

It is thought that Transport Secretary Philip Hammond will visit County Durham, where Hitachi would like to build the IEP rolling stock, later this week and an announcement will follow his visit.

The Japanese government is considering financially supporting Hitachi’s bid to win the contract via way of a loan.

Hitachi already enjoy the status of preferred bidder for the IEP project, which would see the much of the UK’s HST fleet replaced.
