New West Coast franchise postponed until 2013

Operation of the new West Coast  franchise has been postponed until January 2013 following a decision by transport secretary Philip Hammond, who is reported to be looking for a more radical approach to the prestigious franchise.

This in turn will lead to  further consultation within the rail industry.

Currently operated by Virgin Trains, one of the short listed bidders for the new franchise,  First, Abellio and SNCF have also been shortlisted.
